Repository shall have a documented process for testing understandability for their Designated Communities of the Content Information of the AIPs at their creation.

APTrust tests the understandability of the Content Information of AIPs through structured restoration workflows and depositor verification.

This restoration process is designed to test whether:

  • All expected files are present.
  • File integrity has been maintained.
  • The preserved metadata and event history allow the depositor to interpret differences between the original SIP and the restored DIP.

Because the Designated Community consists of professional digital stewards, depositor confirmation of completeness and intelligibility serves as the formal understandability test at the time of AIP creation.
