DART: Digital Archivist’s Resource Tool
DART, the Digital Archivist’s Resource Tool, is a free, open-source desktop application from APTrust. It packages files into BagIt bags and uploads them to remote repositories, including APTrust. It runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
With DART you can:
- Create BagIt bags that conform to a BagIt profile, and validate existing bags against a profile
- Create and edit BagIt profiles in a visual editor
- Upload bags and other files to Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) and SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) servers
- Define repeatable workflows for bagging and uploading files
- Check the status of material you have deposited in APTrust
DART is useful to any digital preservation program, not just APTrust members.

DART Runner
DART Runner is a lightweight command-line version of DART. It runs jobs and workflows on servers and other computers that have no graphical interface, so you can automate tasks you have already set up and tested in DART. You can create batch jobs in DART and workflows in DART, then run them with DART Runner.
DART User Group
APTrust hosts a DART User Group for the whole digital preservation community. Anyone is welcome to join.
