We’re thrilled to announce Jayanth Dungavath's addition as APTrust’s new Lead Developer, effective November 4. Jayanth, who goes by Jay, joins us with a wealth of experience in software development and digital preservation, making him an excellent fit for our team as we continue to advance our digital preservation efforts.

Jay brings over seven years of expertise in developing and maintaining scalable applications across various platforms. His most recent role as a Senior Software Developer at the University of Oxford saw him leading initiatives that modernized and automated administrative processes for over 30,000 users, utilizing technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Ansible, Docker, Redis, and PostgreSQL—skills that align closely with APTrust’s technical infrastructure. Jayanth also implemented strategic solutions to mitigate DDoS attacks on the university’s digital repository, a project that reduced malicious traffic by over 95%, demonstrating his commitment to security and efficiency in digital systems.

Before his time at Oxford, Jay led the development of an open-source digital repository at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His leadership in building a scalable, cost-effective system saved WPI over $250,000, showcasing his ability to deliver impactful results while managing complex technical environments. This experience will serve him well in his new role, where he will be responsible for designing and coding new features, improving existing services, and collaborating with depositors to ensure APTrust’s suite of applications continues to meet the needs of our community.

Jay’s journey in digital preservation began as a Software Developer Intern at APTrust member  University of Cincinnati (UC), where he contributed to developing their institutional repository, Scholar@UC. His early exposure to the importance of digital stewardship and his passion for innovation in this space have shaped his career and bring a strong sense of purpose to his work. UC is also where Executive Director Nathan Tallman first met Jay when he worked for him as a digitization technician; this experience directly led to Jay's role as a Software Developer Intern.

As APTrust’s new Lead Developer, Jay will work remotely. His experience, technical acumen, and knowledge in digital preservation make him a perfect fit for APTrust’s mission to protect and preserve scholarly and cultural resources.

I’m excited to join APTrust and work alongside a team dedicated to preserving valuable digital resources. I look forward to contributing my skills and experience to advance our mission of safeguarding scholarly and cultural heritage.
